Step back in time at the Albert Facey Homestead

Located in the main street is the homestead of Albert Facey, the award winning author of 'A Fortunate Life'. The novel recalls the many years Albert spent in the Wickepin area and the struggles and triumphs of early Australian life. The Albert Facey Homestead has been restored to reflect the lifestyle of early farmers, complete with original Facey furniture. The homestead is open 7 days a week and guided tours are available.

Go bird watching at Lake Toolibin

Lake Toolibin is the last freshwater lake left in the district, providing a habitat for a variety of water birds including the endangered freckled duck and night heron. As salinity threatens to destroy a number of Wheatbelt lakes, CALM and Community Groups have pulled together to save these unique wetlands. Take a walk around the lake and learn about the methods being employed to combat salinity in the area and rescue the wetlands.

Lake Yealering

Lake Yealering is a picturesque lake nestled in the heart of the Wheatbelt.
Take a picnic lunch to Lake Yealering and
watch for waterbirds who inhabit the waters. Take a walk around the town of
Yealering and visit the historic Yealering Hotel, which was featured in the
’A Waltz through the Hills’ mini-series.
